Heating and air conditioning permits in Corpus Christi
Corpus Christi's homeowner guide says a mechanical permit is needed to install a new A/C unit or heat furnace or duct outlets. Installing a portable HVAC appliance does not need one. (source: City of Corpus Christi Development Services)
Homeowners doing their own mechanical, electrical or plumbing work on their homestead may apply for a trade permit. New or altered natural gas systems must be permitted and installed by a state licensed plumber. To check whether a contractor is registered with the city, call 361-826-3240. Statewide rules that apply here
TDLR says contractors who install, repair or maintain air conditioning, refrigeration or heating systems must have a TDLR license, and air conditioning and refrigeration companies must employ a licensed contractor at each permanent location. (source: Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation)
The air conditioning and refrigeration licensing law does not apply to a person doing air conditioning and refrigeration contracting in a building owned solely by that person as the person's home (Occupations Code 1302.053). Your city can still require a permit and inspection. (source: Texas Legislature)
